Today I ended up booking off work and played in a Regionals
in Montreal,
hoping to get a Nationals invite. I ended up playing Dino-Rabbit.
Round 1 vs Dino-Rabbit (2-1)
1 – I summoned Kabazauls and set a card. He played Smashing
Ground, summoned Guaiba and attacked. I flipped it with Book of Mooon. He set 1
card before passing. I summoned my Guaiba and attacked into Book of Moon. I
ended after I set a trap. He flipped up his Guaiba, and I negated its effect
with Veiler before the Battle Phase. He summoned Sabersaurus, attacked my
Guaiba with his Guaiba, and I took a direct blow from Sabersaurus. I used
Warning on his Laggia during Main Phase 2 and he passed. I summoned Kabazauls
and attacked him directly. He summoned Tour Guide, and I used my other Veiler
on it. He set a trap before passing. I used Heavy Storm on his trap and
summoned another Guaiba. I destroyed his Tour Guide with it, summoning another
Guaiba, and attacked him directly with Kabazauls. I made Laggia with my 2
Guaiba afterward and he scooped when he drew for his turn.
2 – He summoned Rabbit, then 2 Kabazauls, then Laggia. He
set the rest of his hand afterward. I set 3 traps and ended my turn. My
opponent flipped 3 MST… He topped Tour Guide and I scooped.
3 – I don’t remember the contents of this game exactly. All
I remember is that I had a traps for all of his monsters. I won the game by
summoning Leviair, stealing his Rabbit and making my own Laggia.
(Apparently he was one of Montreal’s better players. It is a shame I
couldn’t remember his name.)
Round 2 vs Inzektors (2-0)
1 – I summoned Rabbit and made Laggia immediately and
passed. He set 2 backrows and passed. I blew up his Book of Moon with MST, then
summoned Tour Guide, then Sangan, then Leviair, then Rabbit, then 2 Sabersaurus…
I attacked directly and inflicted 8000 that turn.
(I had no idea hat he as playing. I made it look like I
side-decked, but I didn’t.)
2 – He played Duality and grabbed a Hornet. He set a
monster, and a trap. I drew, destroyed his trap with MST and summoned Guaiba. I
destroyed his Hornet, summoned another Guaiba, and made a Laggia. I set 2
backrows and ended. Somehow he killed my Laggia that turn. However next turn I summoned
Tour Guide and summoned Sangan. I used Monster Reborn on his Hornet and beat
him down with Zenmaines and Sangan for a while. He stalled out for a bit, but I
eventually drew my Smashing Grounds and they opened up direct attacks for me.
Round 3 vs Dino-Rabbit (1-2)
1 – It finally happened. My opening 6 cards were 3
Sabersaurus and 3 Kabazauls…
2 – I opened with 3 normal monsters this time. However I had
both my Warnings for both of his Rabbits, therefore I won.
3 – This game went back and forth for a long time. I opened
2 Kabazauls and 2 Sabersaurus, along with 2 Warning. This time he eventually
broke through my defenses and we entered a top-decking war, where it was
literally anyone’s game, and luck would play the key. He top-decked a Avarice,
and off that drew a monster and Heavy Storm. Yep…
Round 4 vs Inzektors (2-0)
1 – I summoned a Sabersaurus and a few traps. He used
Duality and added Hornet to hand. He summoned Centipede, and stopped his effect
with Fiendish Chain. He set some backrow and ended. I summoned my Guaiba and
performed Guaiba into Laggia plays. He couldn’t recover from that.
2 – I controlled him the entire game with 1 Sabersaurus, 2
Kabazauls, 2 Macro Cosmos and 1 Solemn Judgment. Yeah.
Round 5 vs Six Samurai (0-2)
(This player wasn’t even good, he just opened lucky.)
1 – I set a Sangan, along with one useless backrow for what
was about to happen (I think it was a Forbidden Lance). He played Gateway and
exploded.
2 – I opened 3 Kabazauls, 2 Sabersaurus and a Fiendish
Chain. I summoned the Sabersaurus and set the Chain. He played United, special
summoned Elder, and normal summoned Kageki; which I had to use my chain on. He
drew 2 cards: Gateway and Ascetism. He exploded and on my turn I drew Rabbit,
and that was game.
Round 6 vs Inzektors (2-0)
This match followed the same pattern that the other ones
did. I actually drew Rabbit both games during his match, which as kinda unusual…
Round 7 vs Bubble-Beat Heroes (2-0)
1 – I opened with Rabbit, made a Laggia, and set some
backrows. I had the Veiler for his Stratos, and he set some backrows as well. I
summoned Sabersaurus and started to beat him down. The game ended a few turns
later because he didn’t draw any other monsters…
2 – In order to avoid Super Polymerizations, I took most of
his life points with Tour Guide and Sangan. I had answers for all of his plays,
and that was that.
So my record was X-2, which is good I guess, considering a
bunch of players with a score of X-2 would come in Top 16 and get an invite. I
came 18th… Yeah. In the end, my consistent stream of bad luck never
disappeared. The end.
