Box Tournament Report 03/03/2012

It just so happens that the first Local tournament of the format was a box tournament. 1st place won a sealed box of ORCS, 2nd got 10 packs, 3rd got 8 and 4th got 6 packs. I decided to play a unique version of Wind-Ups, similar to the version I played a few weeks ago. The tournament consisted of 5 rounds and then Top 4.

Round 1 vs Crystal Beasts (2-0)

1 - He set a monster and ended. I summoned Tour Guide first turn. I summoned Tour Bus and made a Zenmaity. Basically I sent 4 cards from his hand to the graveyard. He survived for a little bit longer but eventually I pushed through him with Leviathan Dragon.
2 - He went first, set a monster and backrow. I opened Tour Guide again and removed another 4 cards from his hand. Same story as last match.

Round 2 vs Dark World (2-0)

1 - He set a monster and a bunch of backrow. I couldn't explode right away so I set a monster and a Royal Decree. During the end phase his MST destroyed it. He exploded next turn with his set Morphing Jar, and thinned out his deck a lot in the process with all the draw cards and searching, and his explosion resulted in my losing almost 5000 life points that turn, and an activated Deck Devestation Virus depleted most of my hand. I had Dark Hole to destroy all of his monsters and for the next three turns we both didn't draw anything usuable, but he did draw a Trance Archfiend attacked. I managed to eventually explode with what little cards had left and won.
2 - He summoned Trance Archfiend, played Gates of Dark World, and set the rest of his hand. I couldn't immediately explode on my first turn, so I set a monster and a Royal Decree, and destroyed it with MST again. He didn't do too much on his next turn, and then I exploded on my next turn and he scooped the turn after.

Round 3 vs Lightsworns (2-0)

1 - He summoned an Ehren and a trap on his first turn. I drew and played MST, then summoned Tour Guide and preceded to deplete his entire hand. He scooped.
2 - He summoned Thunder King and set some traps. I summoned Tour Guide into Tour Guide and summoned Leviathan Dragon, which was negated by Thunder King. He summoned Lyla and attacked. I summoned another Tour Guide into Sangan and made a Zenmaines. On his turn, he used Solar Recharge to thin out the deck and mill a Wulf, then special summoned it. He summoned a Lumina and discarded a card to attempt to summon Ehren. I chained Maxx "C" to Lumina's effect to draw 1 card. Ehren attacked my Zenmaines and bounced it. Then I took direct damage from Lumina, Wulf and Lyla. Next turn I did explode, and at the end of turn his field was empty, and my field consisted of Tirus, Zenmaines, Zemaity and Utopia. He scooped next turn.

Round 4 vs Inzektors (2-1)

Unfortunately I don't remember this match all that well. But I won anyway. Bast match of the day.

Round 5 vs Chain Burn (2-0)

Both games I drew Royal Decree and that really helped...

Top 4 consisted of myself, the previous two players and a Hero player.

Round 6 vs Heroes (2-0)

1 - This is the first match I have actually went first. Unfortunately I couldn't loop his hand but I did summon a Wind-Up Rabbit and Zenmaity. He went, summoned Neos Alius and destroyed Zenmaity by battle. On my next turn I played Heavy Storm, but he activated Super Polymerization to summoned Gaia with his Neos Alius and my Rabbit. I was able to discard the rest of the cards in his hand that turn, and I killed his Gaia. He stayed alive for a few more turns but I did end up winning.
2 - He went first and summoned Stratos, but I had the Veiler to stop his effect. On my turn I discarded his entire hand with the help of Pot of Avarice. I won a couple turns later.

Since my teammate won (Inzektors) we decided to split the prize. I was fine with that because 34 packs is good, and we did pull good stuff. It's nice that I went undefeated the first Locals of the format though.
