I really didn't feel like writing this, but I'm bored, so I'm writing about it. I went to Regionals with T.G. Stun because I was confident and comfortable using this deck. I put a lot of hard work and practice into the deck and I felt ready to top. So here is what happened on Sunday:
Round 1 vs Gallis Agents (2-1)
1 - He went first and set a monster and passed. I summoned Wanghu and attacked his face down Merchant, milling a Kristya, a Veiler and a Sangan, and added Monster Reborn to his hand. I didn't draw any traps on my first turn, but I played Shard of Greed and passed, knowing I was about to be screwed. He drew for his turn, special summoned BLS from his hand and Kristya using Monster Reborn. I didn't draw any traps next turn so I lost.
2 - I went and summoned Tengu and set four traps and passed. He set a monster and ended, then I chained Skill Drain. I went, summoned another Tengu, attacked his face down ryko, and I attacked directly with the other one. He summoned Gorz, but I had the Warning to stop it. I set another trap and ended. He went and set another monster. I drew T.G. Striker, summoned and synchro summoned Gaia Knight with Tengu, and I summoned the third Tengu. I attacked his set Merchant with a Tengu, then attacked him directly with my other monsters. He drew for his turn and scooped.
3 - He drew to 6 cards and passed without a play. I drew, and attacked him directly with the T.G. Warwolf I summoned that turn, and he summoned Gorz. I set 2 traps and ended. On his turn, he switched his Gorz to attack mode and attacked my Warwolf. I flipped 2 Horn of the Phantom Beast, destroyed Gorz, inflicted 100 damage and I drew 2 cards. He ended his turn at that. I drew, played Monster Reborn on his Gorz and normal summoned Tengu. I attacked the Kaien token with Tengu, and attacked him directly with Gorz and Warwolf, then ended. He drew and scooped revealing his hand: BLS, DAD, 2 Cyber Dragon, Hyperion, Dark Hole and Pot of Avarice.
As you can tell I wrote notes for most of my matches. This one went particularly fast, and I was feeling pretty good. Then as soon as Round 2 began, my stomach shrunk a little since I found out I was able to play Bo Tang.
Round 2 vs Six Samurai (2-1)
1 - I summoned Wanghu, set 3 backrow and ended. He went, used MST on my face down Fiendish Chain. He played Six Sam United, normal summoned Enishi and special summoned Kizan. He drew two cards with United. He attacked with Kizan and I activated Horn on my Wanghu. He took 700 and I drew a card. He set 3 cards and ended. I drew, and attacked with Wanghu into his Fiendish Chain. Then I summoned Striker and synchro summoned a Barkion. He activate Warning, but I activated Dark Bribe in response. Unfortunately this match took a long time, and it was really exciting, so I didn't take a lot of notes. After 12 turns we were both udner 2000 life points, and I eventually won by drawing a Rush Rhino and a Horn off of a Shard of Greed, and beating him down with it.
2 - He summoned a Barkion by Turn 2, and I didn't have a Skill Drain or a Warning for defensive purposes, so I lost rather quickly.
3 - Another really long game. I had Skill Drain active the enitre game too. He eventually summoned a Utopia which I was unable to get over for quite a few turns, until I drew one of my Strikers, and did a synchro play, summoned Gaia Knight, with another Tengu summoned, and a T.G. Warwolf with Horn of the Phantom Beast, and then I won.
I really enjoyed that match. It was honestly my favorite match of the entire format. After feeling awesome, Round 3 happened...
Round 3 vs Wind-Ups (0-2)
1 - He opened Tour Guide, Monster Reborn and Pot of Avarice, and I didn't open Maxx "C"...
2 - I set 4 traps and an MST and ended, since I went first. The other card in my hand was a Cyber Dragon. He went, set 2 cards and ended. I drew into another trap and passed. He chained Royal Decree at the end phase, and I destroyed it with MST, but he chained another Decree. He went and exploded with Tour Guide, Reborn, Avarice and Wind-Up Factory, discarding the 2 cards in my hand, and then I lost on my next turn... to a BLS.
So just like that, my record is 2-1. I got upset. Now Round 4:
Round 4 vs Wind-Ups (2-0)
1 - I went first, set a bunch of traps, summoned Tengu and ended. He went and passed. I summoned a Rhino, and attacked him directly with both of my monsters, inflicting 3700 damage. I set another trap and ended. He set a monster and ended. I went, summoned Striker and synchro summoned Brionac with Tengu, and summoned a second Tengu. I used Brionac, discarding my third Tengu from hand to bounce his set monster. He chained Veiler but I chained Book of Moon to force the effect through. I attacked directly with Tengu and Rhino again, only this time I equipped a Horn to my Rhino to attack for game.
2 - He went and activated Dimensional Fissure, but I chained Maxx "C". He set another backrow and ended. I summoned a Tengu and attacked directly. He went and tried to explode that turn but I had the traps to stop him. I won by beating him down after a few turns.
After that, I felt a little more confident going into Round 5, which was good.
Round 5 vs Inzektors (1-2)
1 - I had the traps to stop him from doing anything, and I was able to beat him down with many monsters over a few turns and won.
2 - This was where everything went downhill for me. I summoned a Barkion a few turns in, and I had a couple traps to back me up as well. He activated Decree, and I misplayed. For some reason I didn't negate it, so I lost to exploding Inzektor plays.
3 - I just didn't have the traps to stop his exploding plays so I lost. I can't remember but I might have summoned a BLS...
So that one misplay cost me everything. Moving on...
Round 6 vs Inzektors (2-1)
1 - This was the same as the last game I had, almost card for card actually... only this time I lost to BLS.
2 - I opened triple Skill Drain, Starlight Road, and 2 monsters. He tried to use Heavy Storm, but I had Starlight Road... so I won.
3 - This game went back and forth. I wasn't in the mood to record the details, but he couldn't do much with Macro Cosmos on my field...
So now I'm 4-2. In order to top, I would have to win all my matches from this point on. Lots of pressure...
Round 7 vs Wind-Ups (1-2)
1 - I didn't go first. He tried to explode but I had Maxx "C", so he didn't do much. I went and set up everything for his offense. I eventually won by wearing down his resources to almost nothing.
2 - He exploded first turn and I didn't have Maxx "C"...
3 - I drew triple Skill Drain, but I didn't draw any traps to stop his monster's summons or attacks, and I drew very little monsters the entire game, and he had an answer for all of them. I lost to BLS.
So yeah, I'm 4-3, with no chance of topping. Wonderful... I played round 8, even though I stopped caring.
Round 8 vs Dino Rabbit (2-0)
1 - He went first, summoned and activated Rabbit. I activated Maxx "C" in response. He summoned 2 Kabazauls and exceed summoned Laggia. I drew 2 cards from all of that, and he set 2 backrow to end his turn. I summoned Tengu, set 3 backrow and ended. He activated MST at the end phase, destroying my Starlight Road. He summoned Tour Guide and summoned another one. He exceed summoned Leviair, and used its effect to summon his banished Rabbit. He tributed the Rabbit to summon two Sabersaurus, and made a Dolkka. His Laggia attacked my Tengu. I activated Fiendish Chain but he negated it with Laggia. I then activated Horn. I destroyed his Laggia, inflicted 100 damage and drew 1 card. He ended his turn at that. I drew, attacked his Dolkka and killed it, drawing another card and inflicting a little more damage. I set more traps and a Warwolf. He drew, summoned a Sabersaurus and used Leviair to summon his Rabbit. He decided to overlay for a Utopia, which I bounced back to his extra deck with Complusory Evacuation Device. He decided to scoop.
2 - He summoned a Kabazauls and set the rest of his hand. I summoned a Rhino and used Warning to kill it. I set 4 backrow and ended. He drew, activated Dimensional Fissure and attacked me directly. I chained MST at the end phase to destroy his Fissure. I drew, and special summoned Striker. I normal summoned Tengu and he killed it with another Warning. I activated my set Monster Reborn to summon my Tengu back, but he activated Solemn Judgment in response. I activated Dark Bribe to counter it. Afterward, he chained Maxx "C" before I went for my synchro summon. I went ahead anyway, summoning Gaia Knight and another Tengu, while he drew two cards. I attcked his dinosaur with Gaia Knight, but he activated Mirror Force. I stopped it with my Solemn Judgement. I killed the dinosaur and attacked for game with Tengu.
That was it. I came 39th with a 5-3 record. Maybe I'm really hard on myself but I am quite disappointed, especially with my misplay in round 5. I wanted to top: That was my goal, and I failed miserably. Wind-Ups are ridiculous, and so is BLS. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Honestly, I'm really not in the mood for Yu-Gi-Oh at this point. The format ended, along with my goal for Regionals. On the weekend there is a box tournament. I don't want to play at this tournament though, because of the risk of disappointing myself again. Maybe that will change during the week, but that's up in the air.
