Tournament Report 02/08/2012

I decided to play in the Locals this evening with a crazy Wind-Up deck. This Wind-Up decks plays many level 3 monsters that special summon themselves, or other level 3 monsters. Examples include Tour Guide, Gilasaurus, T.G. Warwolf... along with the staple Wind-Up monsters. After playtesting 100 sample hands, 88 of them were able to perform the Zenmaity loop, assuming the opponent doesn't have any responses, which is pretty good. Anyway, the tournament consisted of 6 players total: 4 consistent toppers and 2 new players. The tournament was 3 rounds with no top 4.

Round 1 vs Hopeless Dragon (2-0)

1 - I went first and sent 4 cards from his hand to the graveyard. His turn didn't consist of anything special, and I won the turn after.
2 - He went first and summoned Koaki Meiru Drago. That screwed me for a few turns. I had Tour Guide in my hand, which had to go off to start the Zenmaity loop. If I played Koaki Meiru Doom, I could've done something. A few turns later I got it off the field, and then exploded. I won on my next turn after that.

Round 2 vs Inzektors (2-1)

1 -  I exploded and won shortly after, I think.
2 - He went first and had the defense to prevent me from doing much. He beat me.
3 - I didn't have the cards to Zenmaity loop first turn. On his turn he didn't do too much. I looped him second turn and had 2 MST for his 2 set traps: Fiendish Chain and Call of the Haunted. I discarded the remainder of his hand and attacked him directly with 3 Zenmaity, bringing him down to 3500. I also summoned a Zenmaines that turn. He topdecked into Dragonfly, and destroyed all my Zenmaity that turn, and summoned a Leviathan Dragon. On my next turn, I made a Giga-Brilliant somehow, and ppumped up itself along with Zenmaines. I attacked the Leviathan with Zenmaines, destroying one its materials, and at the end phase I destroyed Leviathan. He drew, summoned Card Trooper, milled 3 cards and attacked my Zenmaines. At the end phase I destroyed his one remaining trap. I topdecked into Tour Guide and won that turn.

Round 3 vs Psychics (2-0)

1 - I went first and discarded his entire hand because I opened really well. I won shortly after because he didn't have much of a response. Wind-Up Kitten won the game. Meow.
2 - He set a monster and 2 back row. I summoned Wind-Up Magician, and special summoned Shark from my hand. Magician's effect triggered and I summoned another Magician from the deck. I made Shark level 3 with its effect, and my other Magician triggered which let me summon another Shark from my deck. He chained Torrential to destroy my 4 monsters and his Serene Psychic Witch. His Witch removed from play Esper Girl, and it would be special summoned during his Standby Phase. I ended my turn and he drew. I chained Maxx "C" during his draw phase, since summoning Esper Girl was a mandatory effect. I drew 1 card. He summoned Silent Psychic Wizard, and banished his Witch with the Wizard's effect. H activated Duality and chose and set Mind Over Matter. He attacked me directly with Wizard and set one card. I drew and activated Pot of Avarice, attempting to bait his Mind Over Matter. He did negate it, and I summoned Tour Guide and exploded from there, removing his hand. I also summoned Wind-Up Kitten to bounce his Wizard, which in turn left his Witch permently banished. Meow. I won a few turns later.

I went undefeated with Wind-Ups which is kinda cool. The deck is really good and really consistent. It's a very fun deck as well. I might play it again at some point before the format changes.
