Tournament Report 2/25/2012

Today I participated in the last Local tournament of the fomat. I played T.G. Stun because I really want to play this at Regionals tomorrow. This tournament was Regionals practice for a bunch of the players who participated today. Anyway, onto the report:

Round 1 vs Wind-Ups (2-0)

1 - Even though I misplayed a little I still gained a lot of advantage with Horn of the Phantom Beast. Skill Drain also helped...
2 - I opened a little bit bad, however I eventually gained advantage with Horns. I didn't misplay during this game. King Tiger helped me a lot, and I had my special teched Black Horn of Heavens to stop all his big exceed monsters.

Round 2 vs Zombies (2-0)

This guy is a complete idiot by the way...

1 - He went first, set a bunch of cards. I go and he activates Dustshoot to return Tengu to my deck over Wanghu. I spent the whole game beating him down with Wanghu and Horn... I kept control the entire game.
2 - He didn't do anything special. I had answers for everything he did... and he is just a bad player...

Round 3 vs Junk Doppel (2-1)

1 - I opened with Dustshoot to return the only playable card he had, considering I also opened with Wanghu... From there I kept control with Wanghu and traps and eventually. Having access to all 3 Horns also helps.
2 - The game took a while. I misplayed and that cost me the game because I forgot you couldn't use Thunder King to negate a special summon while Skill Drain is active, so I lost.
3 - I had answers for everything. I gained too much advantage for him to deal with. Warnings, Fiendish Chains and Maxx "C" won me this particular game.

Round 4 vs Malefic Geartown (2-1)

1 - I had answers for all of his big monsters and I beat him down with my smaller monsters. He didn't have any answers to my attacks.
2 - I opened with probably the worst hand of the day, and I lost because I misplayed slightly with Tengu.
3 - I used Dustshoot to return his only monster to his deck, and he didn't draw any other monsters that game so I won.

Top 4 at this point consisted of myself, an Inzektor player, and my round 1 and 3 opponents. We decided to split right away, and I was fine with that. Going undefeated the last Locals of the format was my main goal for today. I'm confident I will be taking T.G. Stun to Regionals tomorrow.
