Double Tournament Report 1/21/12

As the title indicates, I participated in two tournaments today. The owner of the shop decided to hold two tournaments because there was a small turnout for the first tournament. During the tournament I did some pretty good trading. I obtained the cards I needed to finish building X-Sabers, which kind of excited me. Anyway, I decided to play Tour Guide Tengu Synchro for the first tournament because I wanted to earn more store credit for Order of Chaos. Since there are two tournaments to talk about I will be as brief as possible.

Round 1 vs T.G. Agents (2-1)

The games I did win the opponent opened with at least one Shine Ball. I lost game two because I didn't have an answer to Kristya. Game three he opened double Shine Ball, but opened with double Herald of Orange Light, which stalled me out for a while. I did eventually win that game.

Round 2 vs Normal Agents (2-0)

Game one I beat him down very fast because he didn't have enough traps, and I stopped his Venus play. Game two wasn't as fast but I eventually tore through his defenses and double Enemy Controller really helped.

Round 3 vs Machina Gadgets (2-1)

Game one he kept gaining advantage with Gadgets and Gearframes. He wore through all my traps and I continued to draw dead cards as the game continued so I eventually lost. Game two I opened with Dustshoot to return his only Gadget to the deck and didn't have many plays after that, since I had Tengu on the field. Game three was fairly balanced until I eventually won.

Top 4 was determined at this point. Along with myself, the other players who advanced were the two players I just defeated, and a Tour Guide Agent player who was undefeated.

Round 4 vs Tour Guide Agents (2-1)

He did defeat me game one by sacking me with Trishula, double Hyperion and Kristya on turn 2. I defeated the other two games and he didn't sack me that badly.

After that I decided to split for first and second place. Store credit is great. Anyway, I decided to build an X-Saber deck for the second tournament, and put in Tour Guides just for fun. I had absolutely no experience with the deck and misplayed quite a few times, but here's the report for the second tournament.

Round 1 vs Machina Gadgets (2-1)

Game one and three were both pretty long but I eventually won by breaking through his defenses with some cool X-Saber plays. Game two I lost to Limiter Removal.

Round 2 vs T.G. Agents (1-2)

He summoned BLS every game. I made a misplay which cost me the match. Quite upsetting...

Round 3 vs Lightsworn (2-0)

There isn't much to say. I made sure I beat him before he got 4 Lightsworns in his graveyard so he couldn't summon Judgment Dragon.

I advanced to Top 4, along with the two players I previously played and a Six Samurai player.

Round 4 vs Six Samurai (1-2)

He won the die roll, went first and exploded game one, which lead to victory. Game two I had the offense I needed to win and defense to prevent him from exploding. Game three was the same as game one, and I lost.

Round 5 vs Lightsworn (2-0)

This match he summoned a bunch of Judgment Dragons but Trishula and Veiler took care of him.

So this tournament I came in third place, which is ok I guess, considering this was my first time ever playing X-Sabers. I think I will have to actually create a proper build and playtest with it to learn the deck. I really like the deck.
